Ferrous Wear Concentration

Wear Particle Concentration

Measures the relative amount of ferrous wear in a lubricant.

Operating Principle

The fdMplus monitor uses a wear particle analyzer that measures the change in magnetic flux as the sample is inserted into the instrument. It provides the most accurate means of detecting and measuring ferrous wear debris in lubricating oils, hydraulic oils, and greases irrespective of particle size. The instrument reports a parts per million (ppm) measurement of total ferrous wear in any given sample. Insight will use this number to graph the trend and set alarm limits.

Significance

This test gives a direct measure of the amount of ferrous wear metals present in a sample. Large Ferrous is a measure of particles greater than 5 microns and represents abnormal wear. Small ferrous is a measure of particles less than 5 micron and represents normal rubbing wear. Trending of Large ferrous and Small ferrous reveals changes in the wear mode of the system.

Application

Gearboxes, Roller Bearings, Anti-Friction bearings.
